What is this sewing pattern all about?

The off the shoulder tunic top is a loose-fitting garment that flatters all body types. The kimono, bell sleeves drape beautifully and give it a timeless look. It’s a flowy top that is meant to be worn loosely, yet celebrating every woman’s naturally beautiful features. What’s great about this pattern is that it is incredibly versatile. I’ve worn on holiday as a beach cover-up and then a quick wash in the sink, gave it a shake and hung it up to air dry. Then dressed it up with accessories to go out to dinner that night.

What inspired this sewing pattern?

I’ve always been a lover of '70s fashion, and the chic resort wear of that era and my patterns emulate that. Vogue’s “It Girl” of the 70’s, Lauren Hutton and Margaux Hemmingway carefree chic style set the tone.  My goal was to create a sewing pattern that is a modern boho-chic version of that free and easy 70s style. Think attending Woodstock on a yacht.

Is the “off the shoulder” style too trendy?

It is a very popular, trendy look right now.  This tunic pattern will be a new timeless classic, just like the maxi dress. Deceptively simple, with its chic, clean lines and wearability; it is versatile, and flattering on every body type. But this tunic can also easily be created into a one of kind piece of art, simply by embroidering, using cool print or even painting, giving it a completely differently look and on trend with other style genres.

What makes this pattern special?

The flat felled side seams hug the body and give it a finished look. These seams are not only a beautiful couture technique; it provides the tunic top additional weight and stability to hold its shape, year after year.

Bias binding around “neckline” hugs the shoulders and elevate the look with a couture detail giving it a crisp, clean finish.

Am I going to have to wear a strapless bra with this top?

No! Not all of us are suited to don “our girls” in a strapless bra. I have yet to find a strapless bra for large busted women, such as myself that fits properly and doesn’t squeeze the living daylights out of my rib cage, just to hold my ladies up. Also, the cups are so large that the top of the cups shows through the fabric, which defeats the purpose.

I want women to be comfortable and feel confident about what they are wearing and not give undergarments a second thought. I specifically designed this top so you can wear a regular bra with straps. Great care went into making sure that the shoulder strap lays where the bra strap falls naturally into the curve of your shoulder.

An advanced beginner could easily complete this top. It’s critical to press the fabric through each step correctly. It is also essential to take your time. Don’t rush the process! Being mindful of your stitches and pressing will elevate this top from handmade to a couture garment you would find in a high-end boutique in the Hamptons or Newport Beach.

I include comprehensive instructions and photos of every step. I’m also available to answer questions. I am here to help.
